Encounter The Divine
Divine encounter is the realisation of our union with ultimate reality, sacred mystery, and absolute consciousness itself, that we call God. While no idea of God adequately communicates who God is, because God is ineffable, beyond comprehension, Fr Thomas Keating the 20th century mystic said, ‘the best description of God is “Isness” without limit.’ This is because God is best understood as the ground of Being-Itself. God is not a being as we perceive being, so from our human awareness of being, how can we really encounter God, if God is not a being at all? The mystics tell us that God is relationship and manifests Godself as Love-Itself. God then is the love-energy of all relationality that flows in every element of creation, from subatomic particles to human beings. Our encounter with the Divine is designed as a love relationship where we experience Divine oneness. Ultimately we become one with God and along with all of creation are in one loving union, fully conscious and alive within the fullness of Divine love.
Embrace Your True Nature
Discovering our true spiritual identity, our deepest, innermost being, is experiencing our transcendent consciousness, what the mystics call the ‘true self.’ This is the Divine self-manifestation experienced through our uniqueness that will never appear again in another human incarnation. St Catherine of Genoa, proclaimed “My deepest me is God!” Our true self is our individualised expression of God-in-us-being-us, and the mystery St Paul called 'Christ in you.' This inner nature is our timeless, ever-present, eternal, unborn, undying, I am-ness that is hidden in our union with God.
Experience Your Spiritual Centre
To the mystics ‘the heart’ is the medium of divine consciousness and encounter, because it is the seat of consciousness itself. The heart is the organ of spiritual perception, for it perceives the subtle levels of our spiritual aliveness beyond the limits of our everyday consciousness. It is our centre of consciousness within feeling-perception, that feeling centre of awareness that transcends our rational faculty of knowing. This feeling-knowing is a deeper interior knowing, that only resonates from within the heart, because it is only from the heart, that our true inner self can encounter the presence of Divine love. Only the heart is designed to fulfil its interior feeling-perceiving-knowing function by surrendering to love, which of course is the very nature of God, Love Itself.
